Huntingdon Delays Purchase Of One Truck

HUNTINGDON (December 13) — The Town of Huntingdon voted to purchase one of two tandem-axle trucks in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022 and delay the other to the next fiscal year.

During the December 13 meeting, the Huntingdon Mayor and Council learned the heavy tandem-axle work trucks far exceeded the estimated price. The had budgeted $330,000 for two trucks, however, the lowest price for a single truck, with guaranteed delivery in a timely manner, was $223,330.37.

Heavy equipment, especially fleet trucks, have experienced price spikes and manufacturing delays. Carroll County Electric Department and Carroll County Highway Department are experiencing the same price spikes and delays for new truck orders.

Mayor Nina Smothers recommended the purchases be split into two fiscal years.

J.R. Wauford and Company was hired as the town’s contractor for new sewer projects.

The Council also approved to join Sourcewell, a cooperative purchasing program. Mayor Smothers said the town hopes to purchase a new fire truck through the cooperative. She noted the City of McKenzie participates in Sourcewell.

The updated Hazard Mitigation Plan between the County of Carroll and the municipalities of Huntingdon, Atwood, Bruceton, Clarksburg, Hollow Rock, and Trezevant was approved. The current Mitigation Plan was last updated in the year 2017. Janice Newman, director of the Carroll County Emergency Management Agency, presented the updated plan to each of the municipalities. The agreement works to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from major disasters and other emergencies.
