Huntingdon to Host State Bicycle Time Trial Championship

Posted

Huntingdon has hosted several bicycle road races and triathlons in past years but this year they are hosting the 2022 Tennessee State Individual and Team Time Trial Championship on Saturday, August 20. This event is sponsored by Marx-Bensdorf/BPC Cycling team along with several local sponsors and sanctioned by the Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association and USA Cycling.

According to local bicycle racing enthusiast Dr. Mark Smith, a time trial is basically a race against the clock and yourself. There are several different categories for novice to high level riders with two distances of racing. The short route is 12 miles or 20km and the long route is 24 miles or 40km. The entry fees vary from $15 to $75 depending on the race category.

The top three finishers in each category will earn medals. The race starts at 8:01 with the first riders followed every 30 seconds by another group of riders until they are all on the road. The race starts at 191 Court Square.

Dr. Smith said, “We are looking for anyone that enjoys riding bikes or wants to come out and support the riders to come see the race.”

Pre-registration for the race ends at 6 p.m, August 18 and a start list will be posted Friday evening, August 19, online at www.bikereg.com/tennessee-state-time-trial-championship.
