July Unemployment Figures Down

NASHVILLE — The July Tennessee Labor and Workforce Department unemployment figures show a slight unemployment decrease in Carroll and Henry Counties while Weakley County shows an increase in unemployment numbers.
 
Carroll County reported a labor force of 11,288 with 10,735 employed and 553 unemployed for a 4.9 percent unemployment rate. This is a .1 percent decrease over last month which was 5.0 percent unemployment rate.
 
Henry County reported a labor force of 14,355 with 13,751 employed and 604 unemployed for a 4.2 percent unemployment rate. A decrease from 4.4 percent in June.
 
Weakley County reported a labor force of 14,855 with 14,017 employed and 838 unemployed for a 5.6 percent unemployment rate. An increase of 1.3 percent over June’s figures at 4.3 percent.
 
Across Tennessee, the unemployment rate stayed steady at 3.3 percent for June and July while the U.S. figures show a slight decrease from 3.6 percent to 3.5 percent unemployment.
 
Middle Tennessee counties continue to have the lowest unemployment rates with Williamson County showing the lowest unemployment rate at 2.8 percent.
 
Five West Tennessee counties are in the top ten counties with the highest unemployment rates. They include Weakley, Lauderdale, Haywood, McNairy, and Shelby counties. Perry County in Middle Tennessee lists the highest unemployment rate in the state with 6.3 percent.
