Lady Rebels Fall to Lady Bulldogs

McKENZIE (March 20) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels were shut out 2-0 by the Milan Lady Bulldogs on Monday night. The Lady Bulldogs had seven hits at the dish that boosted them to victory.

During the first inning, the Lady Bulldogs left one stranded after Shelby Greene singled to left center.

Savannah Davis and Payton Oginbene both walked down the chalk to first base, but were stranded on base when three Lady Rebels flew out to center field. At the end of the first inning, both teams were scoreless.

In the top of the second, Katie Chesser and Aubrey Jackson recorded the first two outs.

Dylan Easterday walked down the line for the Lady Bulldogs. Mackenzie Lusk singled to left field to put runners in scoring position. Chesser made a throw from shortstop to Haylee Beard at first base to retire the inning and put the Lady Rebels back at the plate.

Beard had the only hit of the inning for McKenzie. Beard was stranded on third base as the inning came to a close. The Lady Rebels and Lady Bulldogs were still scoreless going into the third inning.

The Lady Bulldogs had three hits during the third inning. Shelby Greene singled to right field. Mary Ellen Montgomery singled in the infield to move runners to first and second. Camryn Greene hit the ball to Payton Ognibene on the pitcher’s mound. Ognibene made a fielder’s choice throw to Briley Auvenshine who tagged Shelby Greene out on the base path. Jackson caught the third out in left field to put the inning away.

The Lady Rebels were sat down in order with a strikeout, and two line drives to center infield.

The Lady Rebels were able to reciprocate that in the fourth. Ognibene connected with Beard at first for the first out of the inning. Chesser caught a fly ball at shortstop for the second out. Auvenshine recorded the third out with a pop-up in foul territory.

The Lady Rebels struggled to move runners around in the fourth inning. Ognibene walked down the line to first base. Taylor Rawls took Ognibene’s place at first base as a pinch runner. Carli Beeler and Kassidy Brown both hit to the left side and were thrown out at first base. Beard hit to Montgomery at first base for an unassisted out. As the teams headed into the fifth inning, both were scoreless.

The Lady Bulldogs broke the tie during the fifth inning to take a 1-0 lead. Ashley Williamson walked down to the bag after four balls. Montgomery doubled to the left side to put runners on second and third base. Camryn Greene hit a sacrifice fly to left field for Williamson to cross home plate. The Lady Bulldogs left Montgomery stranded at third base.

Davis had a double in the fifth inning, but the Lady Rebels couldn’t capitalize on the hit and were held scoreless. The Lady Rebels trailed 1-0 going into the sixth inning.

Auvenshine made a throw across the diamond to Beard for the first out of the sixth inning. Ognibene struck out a batter after having a full count. Auvenshine had the final out with a pop-up at third base.

The Lady Rebels were sat down in order with a pitcher to first baseman throw and two strikeouts.

The Lady Bulldogs increased their lead during the final inning to a 2-0 lead. Williamson singled to right field. Shelby Greene hit up the middle and caused an error to score Williamson and put herself at second base. The Lady Bulldogs held a 2-0 lead over the Lady Rebels in the middle of the seventh.

Kassidy Brown advanced to first base on an error by the right fielder, but was left stranded by the Lady Rebels after three strikeouts.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Rebels 2-0.
