HUNTINGDON — Mrs. Martha Jane Wilks, 87, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Baptist Hospital. Funeral services were held Friday June 7, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Cliff Kelly, Bro. Jacob Harris, and Bro. Henry Simpson officiating. Burial followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Wilks was born June 20, 1936, in Huntingdon, to the late Reverend Joseph Bass McMillin and Beulah (Roberts) McMillin. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Kay Wilks, a sister, Betty Trull, brother-in-law, Frank Trull, and a brother, Barbee McMillin.
She owned Hair Fashions Salon and was a hairstylist for 49 years. Her clients were her friends. She loved each one and considered them as family. She always went the extra mile to accommodate her clients’ schedules and would cut, style, and perm their hair anywhere and at any hour of the day or night. With a gift for loving others, she wanted her clients to not only look their best but to feel their best as well.
She attended First Baptist Church in Huntingdon. She was active and served in numerous ways in her church and was one of the oldest members before her death. As Martha lived out her faith in Christ through sickness and health, her favorite verse was Nehemiah 8:10, “The joy of the Lord is my strength”. She enjoyed being involved with the events and projects in the community. She was especially fond of attending shows at the Dixie. She loved socializing and talking with all of her friends.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Arville Gray Wilks; a daughter, Connie (Jay) Bond of Huntingdon; a brother, Buddy (Bobbie) McMillin of Medina; a sister-in-law, Lonelle McMillin of McKenzie; two grandchildren, Kristen (Cliff) Dillahunty of Huntingdon, and Kyle (Laura) Bond of Greenville, North Carolina. She also leaves three great-grandchildren, Axel Dillahunty, Hawk Dillahunty, and Wilks Bond.
