HUNTINGDON (April 7) — Deputies, dispatchers, and jailers all need a pay increase to maintain the workforce, Sheriff Andy Dickson told members of the Carroll County Budget Committee. His requests followed those of John McAdams, director of Carroll County School District, who noted the cost to purchase new school buses has increased $12,000 each and delivery is delayed until December.

McKENZIE (April 5) — “Carroll County is in the sweet spot” said Joe Barker, executive director of the Southwest Tennessee Development District. He was speaking of the geographic location of the county, located equal distance between the proposed Blue Oval/SK Battery assembly plant in Haywood County, Tennessee and two SK battery plants in Kentucky. In the year 2025, both plants are expected to be operating.

McKENZIE (April 9) — Despite an early morning chill in the air, thousands of individuals, mostly children, gathered at McKenzie City Park to partake in the McKenzie Chamber of Commerce’s Easter Egg Drop. Members of the chamber along with vendors and volunteers from the community, McKenzie High School and Bethel University came together to make the event a resounding success for McKenzie.

Wilma Hansen will be honored with a reception in honor of her 100th birthday on Tuesday, April 19 at the home of her son, Gary (Peggy Espey) Parish at 150 Tower Road in McKenzie. Also hosting the event will be her children, Linda (Dwayne) Bolton of McKenzie and Don (Ludean) Parish of Mt. Pleasant, Utah, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Drug Possession — Anthony Jerome Patterson, 40, of 115 Dodd Street, Hollow Rock, was cited for simple possession of schedule VI (marijuana) during a March 31 traffic stop near Bruceton.

Multiple Traffic Charges — Early Sunday morning, April 3, Officer Trenton Ruddy initiated a traffic stop on a Grey Ford F150 for speeding well over the limit. The driver was identified as Fernando A. Corrales, 21, of McKenzie. Ruddy had a driver’s license check done with it coming back that Corrales’ license was suspended for failure to file insurance and did not have proof of insurance. He was cited for Speeding, Financial Responsibility Law Violation, and Driving on Suspended License – First Offense.
