HUNTINGDON (April 1) — Pam Tillis delighted the audience at The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center on Saturday with her intimate three-lady band. Tillis provided the music that made her famous and had fun interacting with the audience. Known for her gold records and the daughter of famed Mel Tillis, Pam enjoys performing at age 65.

McKENZIE (April 2) — McKenzie Lady Rebels celebrate the second-straight state Class 1A Championship and the Rebels celebrated their second straight quarter-final appearance in the Class 1A championship series during a banquet held in their honor on Sunday, April 2. The MHS cheerleaders were also honored for their unyielding support and spirit for a 15-week long football season followed by highly successful basketball seasons.

McKENZIE (April 4) — One hundred-thirteen students were honored during the 38th annual Honors Banquet hosted by the Rotary Club of McKenzie. The students, grades 9 to 12, were seated at floor level at the McKenzie High School Gymnasium while their parents and friends were seated on the home side in the bleachers.

Eight months after the United States entered World War II, the federal government launched the Manhattan Project. The Manhattan Project was the codename for the research and development undertaken to produce the first nuclear weapons. In September 1942, United States Army General Leslie R. Groves was assigned to manage the project. Groves approved three locations for this new clandestine project: Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Hanford, Washington and Los Alamos, New Mexico.

The first wedding I ever attended was in 1962. I was fifteen. And about the only thing I remember was there must have been a bad storm….or the church hadn’t paid its electric bill. It was pretty dark in the sanctuary, and this was in the middle of the afternoon!
