McKENZIE (February 24) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels defeated the Clarksburg Rockets 95-34 in regional action at Bethel University on February 24. The Lady Rebels took a quick lead in the first quarter and left the Rockets behind.
The Rockets were held to four points in the first quarter. Grace Bartholomew drove to the basket for two points. Sam Segraves made two shots at the free throw line.
The Lady Rebels chalked up 34 points in the first quarter. Savannah Davis had 12 points during the starting quarter. Davis drained two 3-pointers then chalked up six points in the paint. Mikaela Reynolds had nine points. She drew a foul for a 3-point play in the paint, then drove to the basket for four points and tacked on two shots at the foul line. Kylie Reynolds made two baskets from the free throw line, then drove to the rim for four points. Briley Auvenshine tacked on four points under the net. Katie Chesser made a shot from beyond the arc. The Lady Rebels led 34-4 going into the second quarter.
The Rockets added 11 points to their side of the scoreboard. Chloe Crum and Segraves drove to the basket for four points each. Crum then made two free throws and Segraves tacked on one from the foul line.
McKenzie added 36 more points to their lead before halftime. Mikaela Reynolds had 15 points in the second quarter. Davis had six points. Chesser and Auvenshine had five points each. Kylie Reynolds drove to the basket for two points, then made one free throw. Sophie Pate tacked on two points. At halftime, the Lady Rebels led the Rockets 70-15.
Clarksburg chalked up 14 points in the third quarter. Segraves had ten points in the paint, then tacked on one from the free throw line. Carly Blount drove to the basket for two points. Crum tacked on one point from the free throw line.
The Lady Rebels slowed their roll in the second half. McKenzie chalked up 13 points in the third quarter. Molly French drained a 3-pointer, and made two free throws. Ally Gibson made a 3-point shot then drove to the basket for two points. Pate added three points. The Rockets trailed 83-29.
The Rockets finished off the game scoring five points. Addison Milam drove to the basket for two points. Morgan Gentry tacked on two points from the free throw line, and Segraves added one.
The Lady Rebels topped the game off with 12 points in the final quarter. Sarah Luci chalked up four points at the free throw line, then made a shot from beyond the arc for three points. Gibson drained a 3-pointer. Gracie Aird drove to the basket for two points. McKenzie dominated Clarksburg 95-34 to move on to the regional semifinals game.
McKenzie takes on the McEwen Lady Warriors Monday, Feb. 27. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. at Bethel University.
