McKenzie Defeats Frank Hughes 14-3; Advances to Championship

McKenzie (May 12, 2023) McKenzie Rebels baseball team defeated Frank Hughes 14-3 on Friday to advance to the region championship game Monday, May 15, at 5 p.m. at McKenzie City Park.
McKenzie, runner-up in the State Class 1A baseball in 2022, is the district champion. The McKenzie Lady Rebels softball team is the district champion and the McKenzie men’s soccer team is the district champion.
The Lady Rebels play Monday, June 15 at McKenzie City Park on one field as the Rebels play Bruceton in the region championship on the other field in McKenzie. McKenzie soccer plays Tuesday at Bethel University. The Banner print issue goes to press before game time, however, the results will be posted online at www.mckenziebanner.com.

In the May 12 contest, the McKenzie baseball team scored one run in the second inning, two in the third, five in the fourth, three and three in the fifth and sixth to earn 14 runs, and run-ruled Frank Hughes in the bottom of the sixth.
Frank Hughes earned its three runs in the third inning.
McKenzie used three pitchers in the contest: Tate Surber, Lane Anderson, and Nolan Renfro.
Frank Hughes’ Harley Kelly went the distance for the visiting team.
McKenzie’s Jackson Cassidy had three runs, Hayden Hixson had one, Ty Anderson had two, Tate Surber had one, Jake Cassidy had one, Nolan Renfro had one, Lane Anderson had two, and Hayden Garrett had three.
