McKenzie, Huntingdon Begin Post-Season Tournaments

McKenzie played host to Gibson County in District Semifinal action on Tuesday, October 4. The Lady Rebels scored their first goal very early in the match for a 1-0 lead. They went up 2-0 with a goal at the 34:30 mark of the first half. Gibson County got a goal with 22 minutes remaining cutting McKenzie’s lead to 2-1. The Lady Rebels made it 3-1 with 16 minutes left in the first half for a 3-1 lead.
 
The second half went scoreless until McKenzie scored a final goal with 7:16 left in the game making it 4-1 in favor of the Lady Rebels which ended up being the final score.
 
The Lady Rebels traveled to Martin on Thursday, October 6 to play Westview’s Lady Chargers for the district title. Westview won the game 2-1 and secured the district title. McKenzie finished as district runner-up and advanced to the Region Tournament. Allie Walker scored the lone goal for the Lady Rebels while Kassidy Brown had an assist. Goalie Katie Chesser recorded 10 saves during the contest.
 
Following the game, members of the All-District Team were named and included Anna Claire Patel, Kassidy Brown, and Jackelyne Padilla. Hannah Dillingham was named Defensive Player of the Year in the district while Allie Walker, Emily Becerra, Kortnee Brown and Katie Chesser were named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
McKenzie travels to Memphis on Tuesday, October 18 (Today) for the Region Semi-Finals.
 
Huntingdon Soccer
Meanwhile, the Huntingdon Fillies wrapped up their regular season soccer with a 9-1 win over South Fulton on Tuesday night, October 4. Kailey Lord scored five goals while Kyleigh Carter scored two goals and had two assists. Lydia Boals and Juli Rich scored one goal each for the Fillies.
 
The Fillies opened district tournament play at home on Tuesday, October 11 against Trenton. They posted a 7-1 win with Kyleigh Carter scoring 4 goals and 1 assist. One of those goals was Carter’s 30th of the season. Lydia Boals, Kailey Lord, and Ashlyn Rich all added 1 goal each. Rich tallied 11 saves as the Fillies goalie.
 
Huntingdon traveled to Jackson on Thursday, October 13 to face Madison for the District Soccer Title. They finished Runner-Up for the second year in a row. Four Fillies were named to the All-District Team including Kyleigh Carter, Juli Harris, Kailey Lord, and Lydia Boals. Ashlyn Rich was named District Defensive Player of the Year. Rich recorded 13 saves in the contest against Madison.
 
The Fillies will play at Adamsville on October 18 (Today) for the first round of the region tournament.
 
Huntingdon Volleyball
Huntingdon’s Fillie Volleyball team finished the regular season 16-4 in just their second season. They finished 2nd in the district tournament and advanced to their first region tournament appearance. They lost to Summertown in 3 sets ending their season. Kelby Crossno, Delaney Byars, and Reese Bradley were named to the All-District Team. Lia Fuller and Annabelle Singleton were named to the All-District Tournament team and the All-Region team.
