McKenzie Police Reports


Simple Assault — Mr. Franklin Hewlett, of McKenzie, informed McKenzie Police that shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday, November 8, he was leaving work at a local restaurant when Jonathan Gant, 37, of Trenton, came around the corner of the building in an aggressive manner and attacked him. Hewlett stated that after wrestling with him for a short time, he was able to get free and go back into the building.

According to the report filed by Officer Trey Boucher, Newlett advised that he did hit Gant several times in self-defense and went back inside to call the police. Gant left the scene. Hewlett stated he did want to press charges on Gant for assault. Officer Boucher did file a warrant for simple assault for Gant, who later turned himself in to the Carroll County Jail on November 11.

Domestic Assault — On Tuesday night, November 9, McKenzie Police received a call regarding a welfare check at an Elm Street apartment. According to the report by Officer Tanner Jackson, the minor child of the victim texted a friend stating that her mom’s boyfriend was scaring her and had hit her. The friend, then, made the call to McKenzie Police regarding the welfare check.

Jackson and Trey Boucher responded to the call and spoke to the victim and daughter, who had video evidence of what went on. Between the actions on the video and the minor child’s statements, Mr. Ben Goodwin, 33, of McKenzie, was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault and taken to the Carroll County Jail.

Driving on Suspended/Revoked License — Officer Andy Weaver observed Chrystal Owens, 31, of McKenzie, driving a silver Honda Accord on Cherrywood Avenue on Wednesday, November 10. Weaver had prior knowledge that Owen’s drivers license was revoked for a prior DUI conviction. He pulled her over and placed her under arrest for Driving On A Revoked License for DUI #1. Owens also had active warrants for Domestic Assault, Child Abuse, and another Driving on Revoked of DUI. She was transported to Carroll County Jail.

Domestic Assault/Fugitive From Justice — According to a report filed by Officer Jeremiah Brooks, he was dispatched to a Como Street residence in regards to a Domestic Assault and spoke to the victim. The victim stated that he had been punched in the eye by Santo Savon Wellington and then left the scene. Wellington, 28, of Jackson, was charged with Domestic Assault. A computer check revealed Wellington is also wanted in Colorado for Parole Violation and has a nationwide extradition warrant on him.

Sgt. Trey Boucher arrested Wellington at a Spruce Street residence on Sunday, November 14 and additionally charged him with being a fugitive from justice.

Domestic Assault — Sgt. Trey Boucher was dispatched to a Jeanette Circle residence in reference to a domestic assault. Upon arrival, the victim told Boucher that, Austin Cantrell was very unruly. The victim advised he attempted to prevent Cantrell, 26, of McKenzie, from breaking a TV and he started resisting him and caused him to fall on the floor. Boucher arrested Cantrell for Domestic Assault and transported him to Carroll County Jail.
