McKenzie Baseball Finishes Regular Season on a High Note

The McKenzie Baseball team finished their regular season with two victories over Waverly. The Rebels defeated the Waverly Tigers 13-3 on Senior night. McKenzie then traveled to Waverly and topped the Tigers 4-2.

The Rebels put up the first run during the bottom of the first. Jackson Cassidy reached first on a dropped third strike. Tate Surber singled to right field. Cassidy advanced to third on a passed ball, then Braden Birmingham singled to score Cassidy. The Rebels led 1-0 through the third inning.

The Tigers tied the game at one during the top of the fourth.

Hayden Hixon doubled down the third base line to score Cassidy and put the Rebels ahead 3-1. Hixon advanced to third on a fly ball, then crossed home plate after a single by Surber. The Rebels led 4-1 going into the fifth inning.

The Tigers added one run in the fifth inning. The Tigers trailed 4-2 in the middle of the fifth.

McKenzie scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Nolan Renfro rushed down the first baseline on a dropped third strike, then advanced to second on a passed ball. Garrett walked down the line to first base. Cassidy singled to left field to score Renfro. Hixon doubled up the middle as Garrett crossed the plate. The Rebels led 7-2 going into the sixth.

Waverly added one last run to the board during the sixth. The Tigers trailed 7-3.

The Rebels shut the game down with six runs in the sixth inning. Surber tripled to right center field. Birmingham singled up the middle and Surber crossed the plate. Renfro walked down to first base after seven pitches. Lane Anderson tripled to score two runs. Garrett singled to left field and Anderson trotted to home plate. Cassidy doubled on a line drive and Garrett touched the dish. Hixon doubled to left center to finish the game off and run rule the Tigers.

As well as hitting the walk off RBI, Hixon toed the mound for the Rebels for all six innings. He threw 92 pitches with six strikeouts, no walks and nine hits. Hixon gave up three earned runs throughout the game. The Rebels rolled over the Tigers 13-3 on senior night.

McKenzie hit the road visiting Waverly and came home with the win. The Rebels scored all their runs in the first inning. Jackson Cassidy started the game off with a single to left field. Hixon doubled to score Jackson Cassidy. Surber reached first base on an error, and Hixon scored on the same error. Jake Cassidy doubled to left field and Surber crossed the plate. Birmingham singled to score Jake Cassidy. The Rebels won 4-2.

Ty Anderson toed the mound for six innings and was relieved by Nolan Renfro in the seventh. Anderson threw seven strikeouts and two walks. Renfro had one strikeout and one walk in 30 pitches.
