Michael Jay Hampton, 65, of McKenzie, Tennessee died at his home on Saturday, May 18, 2024 with his loved ones by his side. 

Michael was born April 14, 1959, to J.D. and Otera Hampton (Beal). He was the youngest of three siblings and grew up closely with his sister, Debbie Laster, and brother, Jimmy Hampton. He graduated from McKenzie High School after which he earned his machinist degree at the Tennessee College of Applied Technologies in McKenzie. After completing his education, he began a 42-year career at Norandal/ Granges Americas Inc. in Huntingdon, Tennessee.

Michael married the love of his life, Joanna Scott in 1980 and they spent the next 37 years building their family together before her death in 2016. Michael’s passion for music led him to be a part of numerous bands, but he is most notably known for his time in the Flashback Band, where he played guitar, keyboard, saxophone, and sang vocals. Michael was also known for his gardening abilities and loved being outdoors at every chance. He loved God and his family fiercely.  Michael was a member of McKenzie Church of Christ. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Otera Hampton, his wife, Joanna Hampton, and daughter, Jamie Taylor.  Loved ones who will miss him until they meet again are his daughters, Elizabeth Bates (David), and Kelly Eads (Justin), and his eleven grandchildren, Brennan Adams (AJ), Olivia Scott, Preston Adams, Macey Minton, Ethan Scott, Gage Adams, Mason Taylor, Aaron Scott, Leah Scott, Hazel Eads and Cora Eads. Also remembering him with fondness is his very good friend, Karen Anderson, along with many other family and friends. 

Arrangements for Michael are at Brummitt McKenzie Funeral Home. Visitation is Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. and again Thursday, May 23, 2024 11-2 p.m. with the funeral directly following. Michael will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
