CHATTANOOGA (December 2) — In their third appearance in the Championship Round of the TSSAA Football Playoffs (2007, 2021 and 2022) the McKenzie Rebels are bringing the gold ball home to McKenzie. After an undefeated regular season along with a last minute playoff victory against Fayetteville, the Rebels knocked off Bulldogs Clay County 34-14 at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
In their first championship appearance in 2007, the Rebels fell victim to South Pittsburg, 52-20. Last season, the Rebels finished the regular season undefeated before falling short 23-20 against their familiar foe South Pittsburg in the Championship Round. This season it was finally the Rebels’ time. From Memphis to Chattanooga, McKenzie proved unstoppable. After four quarters on the final Friday of the high school football season, Rebels hoisted the Champion’s Trophy with their 34-14 win.
Look for the complete game story in the McKenzie Banner’s special edition honoring the McKenzie Rebels and their championship season in the December 6, 2022 edition.
