Lady Rebels Blow Out Bulldogs

McKENZIE (February 7) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels dominated over the Milan Lady Bulldogs 64-30 on senior night.

To start the game, the Lady Bulldogs allowed Lady Rebels Hannah Dillingham and Madison Gilbert to score on their senior night despite their season-ending injuries. The crowd gave the girls a standing ovation as they stepped off the court and hugged their teammates.

Kaidence Martin tied the game 4-4 in exchange for the kind act by the Lady Bulldogs. With an even playing field, the teams went full force into the game. The Lady Rebels allowed just three more points to be scored during the first quarter. Melissa Currie had a shot in the paint for two points. Ashley Williamson drew a foul and made one shot at the line.

The Lady Rebels chalked up 31 points during the first quarter. Savannah Davis had 14 points in the quarter. Davis made four shots from behind the arc and had a shot under the basket for two points. Mikaela Reynolds had seven points. Kylie Reynolds sported five points. Sophie Pate tacked on three points, and Briley Auvenshine had two points. The Lady Rebels led 31-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs added nine points to the board during the second quarter. Makayla Williams and Reese Redmond came off the bench with two points each. Martin and Williamson chalked up two points each. Raela Curry added one point from the free-throw line.

McKenzie added another 20 points to their score during the second quarter. Kylie Reynolds had eight points, and Mikaela Reynolds had seven points. Davis was held to five points during the second quarter. At halftime, the Lady Rebels dominated over the Lady Bulldogs 51-16.

The Lady Bulldogs chalked up ten points in the third quarter. Redmond, Curry and Williams had two points each. Williamson drained a 3-point shot and made one free throw.

The Lady Rebels were held to eight points in the third quarter. Mikaela Reynolds had five points. Molly French drove to the basket for two points. Kylie Reynolds tacked on one point from the foul line. McKenzie led 59-26 going into the final quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs added four points to their score during the fourth quarter. Redmond drove to the basket for two points. Joyclyn Perry chalked up two points as well.

McKenzie traded out their starters during the final quarter. Sophie Pate made two shots from the free-throw line. Gracie Aird had a shot under the rim for two points. Sarah Luci tacked on one point at the foul line. The Lady Rebels topped the Lady Bulldogs 64-30.

The Lady Rebels ended the regular season with a 5-1 record in the district. McKenzie hosted the McEwen Lady Warriors during the semi-finals round of the District 11 Class 1A tournament on Monday, Feb. 13. Results of this contest were unavailable at press time.

Rebels vs. Bulldogs
The McKenzie Rebels defeated the Milan Bulldogs after a fourth-quarter rally. The Rebels topped the Bulldogs 46-41.

The Rebels took a two-point lead in the first quarter. Marquez Taylor drove to the basket for four points. Tate Surber made a 3-point shot. Stafford Robitis and Bryson Steele had a shot each in the paint.

The Bulldogs trailed the Rebels 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. Gabe Scott chalked up five points. D’Yonte Lumpkin drove to the basket for two points. Tyrone Brown and Carmelo Jones made one free throw each.

The Rebels fell behind during the second quarter. Surber had four points. Hayden Garrett and Steele had two points each.

Milan chalked up 14 points. Lumpkin had six points in the paint. Jones drove to the basket and drew a foul for a three-point play. Adam Arnold drained a 3-pointer. The Bulldogs led 23-19 at halftime.

The Bulldogs added to their lead during the third quarter. Brown had six points in the paint. Carter Milligan added four points. Jones chalked up three points.

The Rebels had 11 points during the third quarter. Surber added seven points. Zach Aird and Steele had two points each. McKenzie followed by six points at the end of the third quarter.

The Bulldogs led the Rebels 30-36 going into the final quarter. The Bulldogs were held to just five points in the fourth quarter. Brown drained three foul shots. He then drove to the basket for two points.

The Rebels chalked up a total of 16 points to snatch the lead in the final quarter. Taylor had seven points. Roditis made a three-pointer. Surber made four free throws. Steele drained two shots from the foul line. The Rebels defeated the Bulldogs 46-41.

The Rebels ended the season with a 15-5 overall record and an undefeated 6-0 district record. McKenzie will play host to their first district tournament game on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
