McKenzie Rebels Host Senior Night

McKENZIE (May 1) — This year’s McKenzie Rebels baseball senior class owns a record of 59 wins and 25 losses. They are the defending champions of District 11 - A and Region 6 - A. During their junior season, this group of seniors helped lead the Rebels to a State Runner-Up finish in Class 1A.

Ty Anderson, 18, is the son of Joey and Autumn Anderson. He is a 4-year member of the Rebel Baseball Team. For his career, Ty has a batting average of 335 with 74 RBIs and 5 home runs. He has made 20 appearances on the mound with a career 3.01 ERA. Ty was named to the all district teams in both 2021 and 2022. He is a member of the Science Club and McKenzie Maniacs. Ty was voted Most Rebel Spirit by his senior class. Upon graduation, Ty will begin working at his family’s business, Ghyers Sawmill.

Braden Birmingham, 17, is the son of Randy and Angela Birmingham. He is a four-year member of the Rebel Baseball team. He owns a career average of .342 with 40 RBIs. Defensively, Braden has a fielding percentage of .938. Braden was a recipient of the Silver Slugger award his junior season. He is a member of the Beta Club, M Club, FCA, and will soon be a McKenzie High School Honor Graduate. Braden plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin and major in Finance.

Jackson Cassidy is the 18-year old son of George and Angela Cassidy. Jackson is a 4-year member of the Rebel Baseball Team. At the plate, Jackson has a career .419 hitter with 86 RBs and 9 HRs. He has appeared in 24 games on the mound with a record of 12 wins and 5 losses with an ERA of 2.80. He also has a career fielding percentage of 977 while playing multiple positions. Jackson was named all- district in 2021 and the district player of the year in 2022. In 2022, Jackson was also named to the Class 1A All-State Baseball Team. On the gridiron, he was named TSSAA Mr. Football for Class 1A. He is a member of the Beta Club, Distinguished Scholars program, a Boy’s State Delegate, member of First Baptist youth, and was voted Mr. MHS by his senior class. Jackson plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin and pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Hayden Hixson, 17, is the son of Eddie and Raquel Hixson and Monica Brogdon. He is a 3-year member of the Rebel Baseball Team. Hayden has a career batting average of .412 with 54 RBIs and 9 HRs. He has appeared in 24 games on the mound. Hayden averages more than 1 strikeout per inning with 85 strikeouts in 75 innings pitched. Hayden has played many positions and has a career fielding percentage of 965. Hayden was named to the all-district team in 2021 and 2022. In 2022, Hayden was named to the Class 1A All State Baseball Team. He is a member of Beta Club, Science Club, McKenzie Maniacs, and is a future McKenzie High School Honor Graduate. Upon graduation, Hayden will attend Bethel University on a baseball scholarship.

Nolan Renfro, 18, is the son of Zach and Jill Renfro. Nolan is a 4-year member of the Rebel Baseball Team. Nolan has a career 265 hitter with 38 RBIs. Nolan has shined defensively during his time as a Rebel. Nolan has a career fielding percentage of .973. In his career, he has only committed 8 errors, while collecting 20 assists, and 270 putouts. Nolan is a member of Beta Club, president of the Science Club, president of the McKenzie Maniacs, and Younglife Club. He is also a 4-year member of Rebel Golf, a Senior Class Officer, and was voted Most Rebel Spirit by his senior class. Nolan plans to attend Lineman School in McEwen in September.
