Register of Deeds Office Closed, Still Serving Public

Posted

Carroll County Register of Deeds Natalie M. Porter released the following statement on the office’s operations during the coronavirus pandemic:
I fully recognize the gravity of the current health situation in the United States. I also fully understand the importance of the Register of Deeds office and I take the responsibilities of this office very seriously.
You may be concerned about our capacity to serve the needs of the real estate, banking and community during this time. I want to let you know that I have been working closely on our contingency plan, which, while keeping the safety of our staff and customers in mind, ensures that we will continue to carry out the duties of the office without breaks in service.
1. During this time, our records are available free online. Please access www.ustitlesearch.com and click “Free Access” in the top right corner.

2. I would encourage you at this time to look at taking advantage of an Electronic Filing service.
3. Requested recorded documents can be emailed instantaneously. We will also provide documents through the mail of by fax.
4. When recording a document in person, please call ahead to make sure the amount is correct and that your document is correctly prepared for recording. Documents prepared correctly with no blanks and the correct amount required to record should be brought to the front door. Please call the office at 731-986-1952 and one of us will come out and collect the document. The original along with a receipt will be mailed back to you.
5. We will continue to record documents by mail, E-file, or in person in the order of which they are received.
6. Please note: The Register’s office is not authorized to practice law, so we do not provide forms, prepare documents, nor correct deficiencies in documents that prevent them from being recorded.
