Welcome to McKenzie, Bethel Sign to Be Moved

McKenzie — The physical roadside sign that welcomed passersby to McKenzie and Bethel University must be totally removed because it encroaches on the state right of way on State Route 22N.

The sign was constructed and placed at the intersection of University Drive and S.R. 22 in October, 2022. It had brick end posts and landscaping.

The city of McKenzie received a letter from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, dated January 9, that the sign must be removed within 10 days.

Area motorists complained the sign obstructed vision of drivers at the intersection.

A temporary solution is to remove the signage with a mandate to remove the brick columns soon.
