Lady Rebel Soccer Loses Heartbreaker

The Lady Rebel Soccer season is well underway having hosted their first four matches at home in August. The season opener against Sacred Heart was a forfeit win. They lost to Scotts Hill 2-1 with Kassidy Brown scoring the lone goal and Katie Chesser recorded five saves. The game against Crockett County was canceled.
 
McKenzie’s most recent matches were against Jackson Southside in a barnburner on Tuesday, August 30 and at Gibson County on Thursday September 1.
 
Both teams scored goals in the first 10 minutes of the match. McKenzie took a 2-1 lead with a goal at the 25 minute mark. Southside tied it 2-2 with a goal with 14:25 remaining in the first half. The tie didn’t last long with the Lady Rebels regaining the lead 3-2 with 12:30 left in the first half. The contest went back and forth over the next ten minutes until Southside tied 3-3 with a goal with 2:15 left in the half. The Lady Rebels answered with a goal at the one minute mark to take a 4-3 lead into halftime.
 
McKenzie took a 2-goal lead hitting a goal less than 10 seconds into the second half for a 5-3 lead. The Lady Rebels scored their last goal with 24:56 remaining in the game. The two teams battled back and forth over the next few minutes until Southside nailed a goal with 14:25 left to play making it 6-4. Nearly six minutes later, Southside made the score 6-5 with a goal. The Lady Hawks tied it 6-6 with a goal with 3:13 left to play and hit the game winner with 1:25 remaining in the game handing a loss to the Lady Rebels, 7-6.
 
Allie Walker scored three goals and had an assist. Hannah Lee, Ashley Burnine, and Kassidy Brown had one goal each for the Lady Rebels. McKenzie goalie Katie Chesser had seven saves for the game.
 
The Lady Rebels hit the road Thursday, September 1, for a match against Gibson County’s Lady Pioneers. They came home with a 2-0 win with Allie Walker and Caley McCaslin scoring goals. Goalie Katie Chesser recorded four saves in the win.
 
McKenzie will travel to Adamsville, Huntingdon, and South Fulton after the Labor Day break before coming back home later in the month.
