What started out as a close game didn’t end up that way as West Carroll’s War Eagles lost a region contest to Lake County at Tiptonville last Friday night, September 30.
The War Eagles got the ball first and drove 70 yards in nine plays with Daelon Drasal scoring a 16-yard touchdown with 5:54 left in the opening quarter. The PAT was good for a 7-0 War Eagle lead.
Less than a minute later, Lake County answered on a 53-yard touchdown run by the Falcons with a 2-point conversion run good for an 8-7 Falcon lead with 5:43 left in the first quarter.
The next score came in the second quarter with 10:45 remaining when Lake County scored on a 48-yard run with the 2-point conversion attempt no good. The Falcons extended their lead to 14-7. Lake County struck again a minute later intercepting a pass and running it in from 50 yards out. Their 2-point conversion was good for a 22-7 lead with 9:04 left in the second quarter.
West Carroll started rolling on a 8-play, 65-yard drive resulting in a 3-yard Nate Wykoff touchdown with the extra point good closing the Falcon lead to 22-14 with 4:41 left in the second quarter.
Lake County came right back with a score of their own with 2:18 to play in the half on a 6-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion run good for a 30-14 lead which turned out to be the halftime lead.
The Falcons struck again early in the third quarter scoring on a 5-yard touchdown run with 8:12 left in the third quarter with a 2-point conversion run no good for a 36-14 lead. This was the lone score in the third quarter of the game.
Late in the fourth quarter, West Carroll scored on a 35-yard run by Jayden Milton and added a 2-point conversion run making it a 36-22 contest with 1:06 left in the game. Lake County ran a fumble recovery 96 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the game. Their 2-point conversion attempt was no good for a final score of 42-22.
Both teams ran the ball for over 300 yards each with West Carroll rushing 59 times for 377 yards while Lake County ran 21 times for 300 yards. The War Eagles had no passing yards while the Falcons had 31 yards. Two War Eagles recorded 100+ rushing yards including Jay Long with 23 carries for 123 yards and Jayden Milton with 15 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Jay Long recorded 6 tackles for the night while Hunter Walters and Seth Edwards had four tackles each.
