Weakley County Fair Returns to Gleason July 30-August 6

After a difficult seven months following the December 2021 tornado, Weakley County hosts its second annual fair. The fair is July 30-August 6 at the Gleason Raceway at 5469 State Route 22 South in Gleason. 
 
The fair kicks off Saturday, July 30. Saturday’s fair festivities include a ‘Fairest of the Fair’ pageant at 2 p.m. at Dresden High School, followed by a Tractor, Car and Jeep Show at 4 p.m. Drop-off for the Weakley County High Heelers Contest at the Fairgrounds are July 30 and 31. Art Show entries must be delivered to the Fairgrounds at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30. Art Show judging is at 4 p.m. The Kids Coloring Contest also begins July 30, and it extends until Thursday, August 4. 
 
Sunday, July 31, helicopter rides begin at noon. The Community-Wide Worship Service Singing and Ice Cream Social starts at 3 p.m., led by Pastor Jeremy Powell of Crosswind Church in Union City. Ice Cream is free at the Ice Cream Social, sponsored by Prairie Farms. Parking and admission are free. Guests are advised to bring lawn chairs. The event is under a big tent. Face Painting and a Pet Parade begin at 5 p.m.
 
Monday, August 1, helicopter rides continue, beginning at noon. The Chicken Drop is at 5 p.m., followed by the Hay Bale Toss at 5:30 p.m. A watermelon seed spitting contest is at 6 p.m. Finally, judging for the biggest corn ear, biggest watermelon, and most pods soybean contests is at 6:30 p.m. The winner of each contest receives a cash prize. 
 
Tuesday, August 2, helicopter rides begin at noon. The Goat Show begins at 5 p.m., followed by the Sheep Show at 6 p.m. Competitors can weigh in their goats and sheep from 2-4 p.m. 
 
Wednesday, August 3, a petting zoo starts at 5 p.m. The Poultry Livestock Show begins at 6 p.m. Drop off for the show is from 3-5:30 p.m. Circus Night begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $10, and attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs as there is limited seating. 
 
Thursday, August 4, helicopter rides begin at noon. The petting zoo begins again at 5 p.m. The Cattle Livestock Show is at 6:30. Weigh in for the show is from 4-5 p.m. Grease the Pig will visit the fair at 7:30 p.m., and Circus Night returns at 8 p.m.
 
Friday, August 5, helicopter rides begin at noon. The Hog Livestock Show is at 5:30 p.m. Weigh in is from 2-5 p.m. The petting zoo returns at 5 p.m. The night ends with a Rare of Breed Concert at 7 p.m. Rare of Breed blends country and Christian music with hip-hop to create a unique musical styling called “GodTwang.” Admission is $3 for attendees 17 years and under and $5 for attendees 18 years and older.
 
The week-long fair ends Saturday, August 6. The day begins with a petting zoo from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Helicopter rides begin at noon. There is a BBQ Cookoff throughout the day. The Rodeo begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $20, and attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs as there is limited available seating. Attendees can get autographs by bullrider Cody Nance and ride a mechanical bull.
