McKENZIE (February 8) — On Thursday night, a workshop was held for the McKenzie City Council with the goal of better understanding the process and requirements to grant a retail liquor license. Following some confusion during the last meeting of the Alcohol Board, City Attorney Beau Pemberton recommended a workshop be held to help educate the Council. more

McKENZIE (April 5) — McKenzie Special School District announced McKenzie High School has promoted Dru Emerson to head coach for the Lady Rebels Basketball team. Coach Emerson was the assistant coach this past season, and has extensive coaching experience prior to joining the Rebels’ staff. Emerson was head varsity boys coach at Carroll Academy from 2020-2023 and was a 2020 TSSAA A.F. Bridges Divisional Finalist. more
NASHVILLE — ThreeStar is designed to provide a path for communities to compete in a global economy, and at the 2022 Tennessee Governor’s Conference, Carroll County received the ThreeStar Award at the annual Governor’s Economic and Development Conference held in Nashville on September 19 and 20. more
ATWOOD (October 6) — West Carroll Special School District Board of Education approved the Fiscal Year 22-23 budget, that began on July 1, 2022. Preston Caldwell, director of schools, said he waited until the three new board members took office before addressing the budget. more
Two persons were bound over to the April term of the Weakley County Grand Jury following a preliminary hearing in Weakley County General Sessions Court on Wednesday, January 25. The murder occurred on July 10 in Weakley County near McKenzie. more
Average gasoline prices in Tennessee rose 2.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.09 per gallon on Monday according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 2.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 18.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 6.9 cents in the last week and stands at $4.45 per gallon. more
McKENZIE (September 22) — A McKenzie convenience store, located on U.S. 79 north of the SR 22 bypass, was raided Friday by members of the 24th Judicial District Task Force and the McKenzie Police Department. The owner of A&H Quick Stop was arrested and four gambling devices were seized during the 6 p.m. raid. more
NASHVILLE (October 19) — Tennessee’s unemployment rate for September 2023 inched up slightly from the state’s all-time low rate of 3.1%. Data from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) showed the seasonally adjusted rate increased by 0.1 of a percentage point to 3.2% during the month. more

HUNTINGDON (January 24) — The Town of Huntingdon approved a $1.3 million loan for sewer improvements during the January 24 meeting of the Huntingdon Mayor and Council. Much of the funds are to provide additional wastewater services to the Carroll County 1000-Acre Recreation Lake. more
