KNOXVILLE (June 14- 17) — 4-H Academic Conference is a 4-H STEM event held on the campus of UT Knoxville every summer. Students from all over the state of Tennessee submit applications and are selected to attend the conference, based on their project work. The purpose of 4-H Academic Conference is to recognize outstanding 4-Hers who are actively involved in various projects, provide academic training related to the 4-Hers project areas, meet other 4-Hers from across the state, and experience life on a college campus. more

MARTIN (June 13) — Madison Barker, of McKenzie, and Kaylee Taylor and Jessica Berry, of Huntingdon, participated in a nurse pinning ceremony May 6 for the University of Tennessee of Martin. more
Two local students received degrees at the University of the South’s 2022 commencement ceremonies held in All Saints’ Chapel on the Sewanee campus May 7. more
McKENZIE (June 7) — A new multi-purpose building and pay raises for teachers and other staff are represented in the proposed 2022-23 fiscal year budget of the McKenzie Special School District (MSSD). The local Board of Education convened in a budget workshop to discuss the details of the proposed $15.97 million budget. more
Local students at the University of Tennessee at Martin were recently honored with the publication of the Spring 2022 Chancellor’s Honor Rolls for the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, College of Business and Global Affairs, College of Education, Health, and Behavioral Sciences, College of Engineering and Natural Sciences and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.  more
The University of Tennessee at Knoxville released its dean’s list for the 2022 Spring Semester. Of the 10,238 students listed, twelve were from Carroll County. more
West Carroll School Board met in their monthly session on Thursday June 2 with items ranging from approving upcoming field trips to making adjustments to the school calendar to making policy changes. more
Nikolas Heath of McKenzie is one of the two interns from the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) selected by L.I. Smith & Associates (LIS) for the summer term. The interns will learn from experienced industry professionals while gaining hands-on experience in their chosen fields of study. more
The McKenzie Special School District Board of Education held a meeting Tuesday, June 14, at 5:30 p.m. at 114 Bell Avenue. At the meeting, board members considered the approval of budget amendments for the McKenzie Special School District school funds. They also considered for approval the 2022-23 School District Property Taxes and McKenzie Special School District Budget. more
MARTIN — Jimmy Tosh is known as a successful businessman and family farmer through his association with Tosh Family Farms in Henry, Tennessee. He’s also known for his generosity and his support for his alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Martin. Tosh was honored May 5 when the Tosh Family Classroom was officially named during an early afternoon program in UT Martin’s Brehm Hall. The event included Tosh, family members and university Chancellor Keith Carver. more

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology hosted its inaugural Tech Discovery Camp for rising eighth graders May 23-27. Fourteen students, recommended by McKenzie Middle School staff based on various criteria, spent the week rotating between four technical programs: Industrial Maintenance, Welding, Automotive, and Machine Tools. By the end of the week, each student spent a total of one day in each program. more

MARTIN (May 25) — Austin Maxwell, of McKenzie, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army during a ceremony May 6 at the University of Tennessee at Martin. more
Owen Crocker and Tate Crews were chosen from Hollow Rock-Bruceton High School to represent the American Legion Post 180 at Boys State 2022. Michael Crosby will act as an alternate to Crocker and Crews for the program. more
PARIS (May 23) — Austin (AJ) Maxwell, a Survey Technician at L.I. Smith and Associates (LIS), received the Tennessee Association of Professional Surveyors (TAPS) Student of the Year Award. Maxwell received this award on March 4.  more
