McKENZIE (August 27) — On Tuesday, Lottye Choate celebrated her 95th birthday. As part of her birthday surprise, her daughter, Teresa Matlock, asked Facebook friends to send her mother birthday cards. HUNTINGDON (August 29) — Electric rates in Carroll County and throughout the TVA service area will increase in October after the federal electrical producer raised wholesale rates by 5.25 percent effective October 1, board members of the local electrical distributors were told during the regular monthly meeting. more

GLEASON — Gleason celebrated its 51st Tater Town Special during the final week of August, always culminating the weekend of Labor Day. The Gleason Gazelles started the event in the 1970s as a way to showcase the city and its pride for all things Gleason. The lone year without the event was 2020, the pandemic year. more

HUNTINGDON (August 29) — Huntingdon Middle School hosted McKenzie softball Thursday. The Fillies played well on both sides of the ball, including a shutout by pitcher Marcie Mitchell, for a 9-0 victory. more
McKENZIE (August 31) — A packed Walter Butler Stadium for the first night game in three years saw the No. 8 Bethel Wildcats outlast the Point University Skyhawks Saturday night. The Cats won 20-6 in the season opener for both squads. more
