Inglenook Book Club News
From the Oct 14, 2025 e-EditionThe Inglenook Book Club held its monthly meeting on October 8 at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Senior Retirement Community. President Gail Mack called the meeting to order, first thanking hostesses Victoria Ard and Carolyn Potts for serving delicious pumpkin-shaped cakes, along with assorted nuts, candy corn, and beverages. The Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim, and Motto were recited by all.
The October birthday ladies—Sheila Rogers, Gail Mack, and Suzanne Russell—were celebrated with a group rendition of “Happy Birthday.” Eighteen ladies answered to roll call, followed by the reading of the September minutes. Jean Hollomon motioned to approve the minutes, and Pedie Pedersen seconded the motion. The minutes were approved as read.
Treasurer Donna Ward presented the treasurer’s report, which was also approved as read. Membership Chair Suzanne Howell reported that there are three vacancies for new members, and she asked anyone with potential candidates to submit names to her. The Sunshine Chair, Membership Chair, Telephone Chair, and Publicity Chair each provided their reports to the group.
In old business, the Christmas Party was discussed, and a menu was distributed for everyone to choose. The Christmas Party is December 10 at noon at Lakeside.
In new business, the calendar meeting dates for 2026 were discussed, along with signup sheets for program presentations and hostesses for members to select their preferred dates.
President Mack then invited Suzanne Howell to give her program presentation. Suzanne spoke about mystery and crime fiction novelist William Kent Krueger, who is of Irish American and Ojibwe descent. The Ojibwe is the largest tribal affiliation in Northern Minnesota. Suzanne provided an engaging presentation on Krueger.
Next, Book Chair Mary Newman conducted book passing and reminded everyone that she needs the titles and authors of the 2026 books submitted to her by the November meeting to include them in the 2026 handbook. Geneva Johnson shared that Martin Library was selling books for $1 per bag during her visit earlier that day.
President Mack announced the names of three ladies who will serve on the nominations committee: Peggy Chappell, Jean Hollomon, and Mary Newman. They will present a slate of officers at the November meeting.
Upcoming announcements included the next meeting date and time: November 12 at 3p.m. at Lakeside. The program will be presented by Suzanne Russell, and the hostesses will be Geneva Johnson and Beverly Mueller.
