Students Safe After Bus, Car Collision

McKENZIE (August 17) — An accident involving Carroll County School Bus 36 and a black Honda Fit occurred at the intersection of Cedar Street and Main Street South at approximately 3:24 p.m. Monday.

The school bus, which was carrying 48 students from McKenzie Elementary and McKenzie Middle, was heading south down Main Street at the time of the accident.

McKenzie Special School District Director of Schools Dr. Justin Barden, McKenzie Elementary Principal Tonya Brown and McKenzie Elementary Assistant Principal Zach Renfro arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and began coordinating with parents to pick up their children.

The McKenzie Police Department, McKenzie Fire/Rescue, Carroll County Fire Department, Carroll County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Tennessee Highway Patrol and Baptist Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

When emergency personnel determined the students were safe to exit the vehicle, students were relocated to McKenzie’s Park Theatre where they were further evaluated for injuries.

The driver of the Honda Fit sustained minor injuries and was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital–Carroll County.
