Gleason was selected to be one of twelve towns in the state to benefit from the Tennessee Downtowns Program, which will benefit downtown Gleason in a variety of ways over the next two years. Angie Lassiter of Gleason Downtown Revitalization, and Mayor Charles Anderson attended the kick-off meeting in Nashville on May 21 for this prestigious program.

McKENZIE — Construction will begin later this year on a new administrative and classroom complex at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at McKenzie. Construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2024 and take more than one year to complete. Bell and Associates is the general contractor.

TENNESSEE (May 20) — Average gasoline prices in Tennessee have fallen 9.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.12/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 9.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 1.7 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 3.3 cents in the last week and stands at $3.86 per gallon.

Macedonia and Bethel/Eastside FCE had a picnic lunch and great conversation, getting to know each other better. There were four members from Macedonia: Martha Peters, president; Sarah Brown, Gaye Coleman, and Judy Gipson; and two members representing Bethel/Eastside: Gail Eubanks, president; and Danita Laman.

State game wardens cannot enter private property in Tennessee without a warrant, the state’s Court of Appeals ruled last week. The case was originally heard in Circuit Court, 24th Judicial District, by Judge Donald Parish, now retired. Parish ruled TWRA did not have such broad authority.

McKENZIE (May 14) — Members of the Rotary Club of McKenzie heard from Bethel University’s Global Studies program. Stacie Freeman, leader of Bethel University Global Studies, was the featured speaker. She thanked the club members for donating supplies for a service/learning trip to Guatemala, where Bethel students and community members, worked in elementary schools in Guatemala City. Travelers also visited Lake Atitlan, Antiqua, and San Juan.
