McKENZIE (March 9) — The City of McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council met Thursday evening with a light agenda. Two individuals from McKenzie were appointed at the recommendation of Mayor Ryan Griffin to the planning commission and housing authority. A.J. Maxwell was appointed to the McKenzie Regional Planning Commission and Karen Fowler was appointed to the housing authority. more

MURFREESBORO (March 13) — Kylie Reynolds of McKenzie is one of two finalists for the Class 1A, Division I Miss Basketball 2022-23. She has committed to play collegiate ball at Bethel University. Kylie and her sister, Mikaela are both starters for the Lady Rebels and helped the team earn the Class 1A basketball championship in Murfreesboro in March 2022 and 2023. She averaged 16.6 points per game during her 2022-23 season. Kylie is the daughter of Stephanie McClerkin and the late Roscoe McClerkin. more
MURFREESBORO (March 11) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels defended their state title by defeating the Wayne County Lady Wildcats 71-54. The Lady Rebels took a quick lead in the first quarter and added onto that throughout the night. more
Two area teams will play Saturday afternoon for the state championship in the Blue Cross girls basketball State Championship tournament at Murfreesboro in their respective classifications. more

McKENZIE (March 6) — The McKenzie Rebels are headed back to state after they punched their ticket with a 55-36 victory over the Moore County Raiders. The Rebels started the game off with a ten-point lead and added to that throughout the night. more
HUNTINGDON (February 28) — The 2022-23 Huntingdon Middle School Boys’ Basketball Team was honored by the Town of Huntingdon Mayor and Council during the February 28 meeting. Mayor Nina Smothers read a proclamation that proclaimed February 28 as Huntingdon Middle School Boys’ Basketball Team Day in Huntingdon. more

CARROLL COUNTY (March 5) — Severe weather hammered the mid-south area over a three-day period last week starting on Wednesday. For Carroll County, the most intense action took place on Friday with severe storms in the morning and dangerously high winds throughout the day, knocking out power to roughly 6,456 Carroll County Electric Department (CCED) customers. more
ATWOOD (February 23) — A six-hour standoff last Thursday afternoon in Atwood ended about 10:30 p.m. when law enforcement officials took a local man into custody with serious injuries that resulted from a shootout hours earlier. more
McKENZIE (February 23) — The McKenzie Rebels’ perfect football season was capped with a “Night of Champions Ring Ceremony” to commemorate the historic, undefeated championship season. The event was held at the McKenzie High School Theatre in front of a capacity audience on Thursday, February 23. more
HUNTINGDON (February 21) — McKenzie will soon have very similar dispatch capabilities as the main 9-1-1 and emergency services dispatchers, located at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on the campus of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department. more

HUNTINGDON (February 15) — The Town of Huntingdon’s revenues and expenditures are trending well through December 31, 2022. In the fiscal year, ending June 30, 2023, the town is facing some significant capital outlays for a new fire pumper, police cars (SUVs), and vehicles for all departments. On top of that, Huntingdon, like many government agencies, is having difficulty recruiting and retaining police officers. more

McKENZIE (February 8) — Bethel University was the site of a meeting point for the beginning of discussions about education ties to the BlueOval City Project with Ford Motors and the SK battery pack corporation. The summit was initiated by the City of McKenzie to open dialogue between Ford and community leaders. Included in the luncheon were representatives from the McKenzie Special School District and Board of Education, the Carroll County Board of Education, TCAT-McKenzie, Bethel University along with city and county officials. more
HUNTINGDON (February 10) — Tennessee has a great story, said Senator John Stevens. The State of Tennessee is cutting taxes and growing revenues. The FY22 budget had a $2.6 billion surplus and the FY23 budget has an estimated $6.3 billion surplus. Tennessee has no new debts while shrinking the overall size of the budget. more
