McKENZIE — Bethel University is hosting the annual Miss Bethel University Volunteer and the Miss Carroll County Volunteer pageant on November 19, at 6 p.m. in the Dickey Fine Arts Building on Bethel’s campus. This combined pageant acts as a preliminary for the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Scholarship pageant held each July in Jackson. Deadline for application is Tuesday, November 15.

NASHVILLE — For the second year in a row, a McKenzie Rebel has been nominated for Class A’s Mr. Football Award. Last year, it was junior running back Marquez Taylor and this year it is senior quarterback Jackson Cassidy.

McKENZIE (November 2022) — The Polar Bar! Ask anyone who resided in McKenzie in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, and you will hear a favorite memory of the burger and ice cream shop. It was the hangout for high school students in the late 1950s and 60s before the chain restaurants and fast food restaurants. It was the place to get a whopper burger, fries, and ice cream and shakes.

McKENZIE (October 27) — Hospital Drive in McKenzie no longer includes a hospital, but there are still medical facilities, a new high-tech company, and a newly renovated headquarters for Carroll County Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

McKENZIE (October 27) — The Boo Bash returned to downtown McKenzie last Thursday after a two-year absence due to COVID-19 precautions. It was bigger than anticipated with thousands of children and their parents participating.

McKENZIE (October 18) — Free Wi-Fi will soon be available in downtown McKenzie. Mobile Communications America of Paducah was in McKenzie last week to install the radio-transmitting nodes on the top of the LED street lights to provide the radio signal.

JACKSON (October 20) — BlueOval City, a manufacturing campus with Ford Motor Company and SK Battery, will transform West Tennessee, according to a public/news conference at the Jackson Fairgrounds on Thursday. Ford is investing $5.6 billion for the local manufacturing plants and a total of $11 billion in both west Tennessee and Kentucky.

McKENZIE (October 11) — What was expected to be a debate between the two candidates for the office of mayor of McKenzie resulted in only one candidate attending. Mayor Jill Holland challenged challenger Ryan Griffin to debate the issues of the race, however, Griffin did not respond to the invitation and was not present at the Park Theatre venue.
