Welding is often considered a man’s trade, but Lillian Ninness is here to change that. The 2023 Huntingdon High School graduate is one of two women in her welding class at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology-McKenzie (TCAT), but she won’t let that stop her from chasing her passion.

BRENTWOOD (June 19) — Derek Carr was named to the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) 75th Anniversary Team on Monday, June 19. Carr, a 2008 graduate from McKenzie High School and a 2012 graduate from the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM), was one of eight Skyhawk honorees and one of 135 football players chosen for the team.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Kennedy Reese, of Gleason, was named to the University of Alabama’s president’s list for the spring 2023 semester. Students on the president’s list must be full-time students and maintain an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s).

GERMANTOWN (May 5) — Kallie Berry, a nurse at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County was nominated for the 2023 University of Tennessee Health Science Center Nurse Hero Award at the 2023 NightinGala. Berry was one of 60 nurses in the midsouth to be nominated for the Florence Nightingale award.

Tera Townsend was born to shine on the pageant stage. The Huntingdon native began competing in pageants at as early as six months old, and now she is traveling to Memphis to represent West Tennessee in the Miss Tennessee Pageant June 29-July 1.

The Bethel/Eastside Family and Community Education (FCE) met at the lake for their June 8 meeting. Seven ladies attended. Danita Laman called the meeting to order and read the Family and Community Education Club Prayer. Meeting hostess Gail Eubanks gave the devotion, using “Ask the Expert.” She quoted Bible verse Luke 11:10. The day’s thought was read, and last meeting’s minutes were read and approved.

President Carolyn Moore called the meeting to order at 3 p.m. by thanking hostesses Gayron Lyles and Pedie Pedersen for serving delicious German Chocolate Cake along with assorted beverages.
