    HENDERSON (January 27) — Freed-Hardeman University has released the names of students who made the President’s and Dean’s Lists for the Fall 2022 semester. To be on the President’s List, a student must be full-time and have a 4.0 grade point average. Students on the Dean’s List have earned a minimum 3.4 grade point average for the semester.

  • Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations for 2023 Class

    The Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for the 2023 class. The deadline for nominations is March 6, 2023, and nomination forms can be picked up at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce in Huntingdon or you can get a form from any of the board members.

    Kelsey Holmes, a senior at West Carroll High School, is the 2023 Basketball Homecoming queen. She is the daughter of Richard and Kayla Holmes. She was crowned in pre-game ceremonies on Friday, January 27.

    Two persons were bound over to the April term of the Weakley County Grand Jury following a preliminary hearing in Weakley County General Sessions Court on Wednesday, January 25. The murder occurred on July 10 in Weakley County near McKenzie.

  • Huntingdon Approves $1.3 Million Loan for Sewer Improvements

    HUNTINGDON (January 24) — The Town of Huntingdon approved a $1.3 million loan for sewer improvements during the January 24 meeting of the Huntingdon Mayor and Council. Much of the funds are to provide additional wastewater services to the Carroll County 1000-Acre Recreation Lake.

    MURFREESBORO (January 28) — For the second time in school history, the Huntingdon Middle School Mustangs have claimed a state basketball championship. The Mustangs battled Thurman Francis Middle School in a 55-26 championship win in the James C. Haile State Basketball Tournament.

    Evading Arrest, Aggravated Assault — Vince D. Vandiver, 53, N. Main Street, Milan was arrested on January 24 after leading officers on a high-speed pursuit, slamming into a patrol car, and ending his journey when a tire deflated.

    DYER (January 24) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels slid past the Gibson County Lady Pioneers 57-55. The Lady Rebels took the lead in the final quarter to secure their victory. MHS was down 73-72 with 12 seconds remaining. Briley Auvenshine with a huge offensive rebound off a missed shot, kicked it out to Kylie Reynolds for a 3-pointer and the win.
