    TENNESSEE (June 24) — Average gasoline prices in Tennessee declined 3.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.97/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 20.0 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 12.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has risen 2.4 cents in the last week and stands at $3.76 per gallon.

  • Intervention without Retention

    Tennessee’s new third grade retention law is adding undue stress on parents and grade school children. The new retention law hinges on the English Language Arts section of TCAP / TNReady testing. Third graders who score below or approaching proficiency face possible retention. Students who do not meet the required score on the state test must go to summer school and have a tutor for the entirety of fourth grade. Those students must then hit a specific growth goal the next year to move on to the fifth grade. If a parent believes their child does not need to be held back they can attempt to get an appeal.

    Driving on Revoked License — Bennie Harbin, 50, of Huntingdon, was given 10 days to report to the Carroll County Jail for the offense of driving on revoked license first offense. Officer Townes observed Harbin in physical control of a silver Nissan Versa traveling West on Main Street in Huntingdon. Officer Townes knew the driver driver’s license was revoked. She pulled Harbin over and he was cited into General Sessions Court.
