  • Gasoline Prices Remain Steady Through Week

    TENNESSEE (June 17) — Average gasoline prices in Tennessee have risen 1.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.00/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 13.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 13.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 1.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.73 per gallon.

    The McKenzie High School Alumni Association (MHSAA) presented senior Ava Mae Warman, MHS Class of 2024, with a scholarship in the amount of $1000. This is the first year for the scholarship to be awarded.

  • Albino Kangaroo Gets Name ‘Rebel’

    McKENZIE (June 15) — An albino male kangaroo, born at Southland Safari in Clarksburg, has a new name, “Rebel.” Southland Safari is owned by Chris and Tosha Gurley. The seven-month-old kangaroo was born as an albino, a rare occasion. It’s parents are both gray kangaroos.

  • Sherri Brawner is Finalist For Teacher of the Year

    GLEASON — Sherri Brawner, third grade teacher at Gleason Schools, is one of nine teachers in Tennessee vying for the distinction of Teacher of the Year. There are three finalist from each grand division of the state — West, Middle and East. Each now advances to the interview portion of competition in mid-June.

  • Daniel Capua Welcomed As New MHS Band Director

    McKENZIE (June 14) —Daniel Capua is the new band director for the McKenzie Middle School and McKenzie High School band programs. Capua is a 2024 graduate of UT-Martin, where he was in the marching band and served as field commander. He is a graduate of Westview High School.

  • McKenzie School Board Approves Budget, No Tax Increase

    Tuesday, June 18

    McKENZIE (June 11) — McKenzie Special School District Board of Education approved the 2024-25 fiscal year budget during its June 11 regular monthly meeting. The budget includes no tax increase to fund the nearly $15 million budget. The tax rate is $1.1844 per $100 in assessed value on real property.

    HUNTINGDON (June 17) — Dozens of volunteers from all over Carroll County gathered at Carroll County Inclusion Park on Monday to help lay 17 pallets of sod (8,400 sq. ft.) in roughly 25 minutes around the perimeter of the playground to help reduce erosion.
