McKENZIE — Carroll Arts, Inc. is back to kick off McKenzie’s Sweet Tea & Southern Pickin’s Festival with a production including familiar faces and an unfamiliar story. Over the summer, local actors have taken the McKenzie High School Theatre stage to practice for the play, titled “Southern Fried Nuptials,” and they are excited to show off their hard work this weekend.

NASHVILLE — Tennessee made history in July when the state recorded its lowest unemployment rate since the federal government began tracking the statistic in 1976. According to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD), the seasonally adjusted rate of 3.1% was 0.1 of a percentage point lower than the previous all-time low of 3.2%, a figure the state once again reached in June.

HUNTINGDON — An ongoing, proactive joint drug investigation by special agents with the Drug Investigation Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Huntingdon Police Department, and 24th Judicial Drug Task Force has resulted in the seizure of drugs, drug paraphernalia, a weapon, as well as the arrest of two individuals in Carroll County.

HUNTINGDON — Brown-colored water in Huntingdon was alarming the water customers and caused the schools to close on Tuesday, August 15. The older areas of the city, where cast iron pipes transport the city’s drinking water, are more susceptible to brown water laden with iron.

Fraud — On August 11, the victim stated she used her EBT card in Jackson around 9:30 a.m. on August 7. Later that day back in Huntingdon at Walmart she tried to use her EBT card again when it was declined, after she knew she had money on the card. The 1-800 number on the back of the EBT card stated someone used the card without her permission on August 7, making five withdrawals up to $1,069.05. This left her balance at zero dollars. No other information currently.
