HUNTINGDON (July 22) — There is no tax increase to fund the 2021-22 fiscal year budget for the Huntingdon Special School District. The Board of Education approved the new $16.6 million budget with a tax rate of $1.1211 per $100 assessed value - the same as last year.

McKENZIE (July 26) — The McKenzie Special School District School Board hosted its annual breakfast, catered by Mallards, Monday morning for all McKenzie Special School District faculty. The school board and administrators met in the McKenzie High School cafeteria at 8 a.m.

West Carroll School program benefited from the Clayhill, Inc. sponsored Lone Star Rodeo. School organizations received a total of $2,039 from parking at the event. The funds benefit Project Graduation, Football and BETA Club.

MARTIN — Students from Carroll County joined close to 400 youth leaders from across the state at the Tennessee Teen Institute (TTI) on the University of Tennessee at Martin campus June 13-17. The Tennessee Teen Institute is a five-day youth leadership and prevention camp sponsored by the Jackson Area Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (JACOA).

Every year, the University of Tennessee at Martin holds Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR) for incoming freshmen. This year, SOAR sessions began May 24 and will end August 6. Sessions can be in-person or virtual beginning June 23.

MEMPHIS (June 25) — After several months of conversations, meetings, measures and proceedings, the University of Tennessee Board of Trustees voted Friday to acquire the assets of Martin Methodist College and establish a new UT campus in Pulaski, Tennessee: UT Southern. Martin Methodist College’s Board of Trustees will vote on the measure following UT’s morning board session.

The administration at Jackson State Community College announced the school’s 2021 Spring Semester Dean’s List and Honor Roll students. Students on the Dean’s List are enrolled for twelve or more hours of college-level work and complete a semester’s work with a quality point average between 3.50 and 4.00. Students on the Honor Roll are enrolled for twelve or more hours of college-level work and complete a semester’s work with a quality point average between 3.00 and 3.49.

GLEASON (June 3) — The Weakley County School Board unanimously approved a proposal to officially name Gleason’s gymnasium floor “Randy Frazier Court” to honor the former head coach’s career and accomplishments. The new name will be incorporated into the new court design in advance of the 2021-2022 school year.

McKenzie (June 10) — There is no property tax increase to fund the 2021-22 fiscal year budget for the McKenzie Special School District. The Board of Education of the McKenzie Special School District approved the budget and tax rate of $1.1844, a rate equal to the certified tax rate of more than 20 years. One of the highlights of the budget is the final $884,000 payment on the financing bond for the construction of McKenzie High School, constructed in 1998.

ATWOOD — It was a larger-than-usual audience at the West Carroll Special School District Board of Education meeting on Thursday, June 3 at the West Carroll Junior/Senior High School cafeteria.
