The monthly meeting of the Inglenook Book Club was May 10, 202, at Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie, with 18 members in attendance. President Carolyn Moore called the meeting to order and extended a thank-you to hostesses Geneva Johnson and Shirley Martin. The ladies graciously served delicious warm peach cobbler topped with ice cream, assorted nut medley, and assorted beverages. The tables were decorated with tulip-designed napkins, and little spring baskets holding the assorted nut medley.

The Bruceton American Legion Post 180 honored five individuals with awards during Central High School’s Academic and Leadership Banquet at the Carroll County Civic Center April 24. Award recipients were Joe Bishop, Post Commander; Reyna Joyner, Citizenship; Drake Northup, Boys State; Owen Crocker, Americanism; and Derreld Robinson, Post Adjutant.

NASHVILLE (May 18) — Today, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced approval of his federal assistance request, making recovery assistance available to 45 counties impacted by severe weather, flooding and straight-line winds on March 1-3. Carroll, Henry and Benton counties are among the recipients.

Carroll County’s annual Relay for Life event returns Saturday, Sept. 9, for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, held at the Carroll County Civic Center, helps the American Cancer Society (ACS) fundraise and raise public awareness of benefits for cancer patients.

McKenzie/Carroll County United Neighbors received a donation of 567 healthy food items (weighing a total of 430.37 pounds) for our first Food Drive event during April promoting Food Waste Awareness. It is expected to be an annual event.

The McKenzie Elementary School celebrated the end of their 4th nine-weeks of school by honoring students with high or improving grades. The school released the names of students who made the Honor and Merit Rolls and the recipients of the individual Principal’s P.R.I.D.E. Reading, Principal’s P.R.I.D.E. Math, B.U.G. (Bringing Up Grades) and Citizenship awards.

HUNTINGDON (May 18) — On Thursday, the Carroll County Budget Committee made the final adjustments to the 2023-24 Fiscal Year Budget. The total estimated budget for the general fund is $15,175,589 with an estimated revenue of $15,484,885 producing a positive net of $309,296 to be placed in reserves. According to Commissioner and Budget Chairman Darrell Ridgely, the budget was procured without raising taxes. He added that no one is probably 100% satisfied with the budget but through negotiations and numerous meetings, compromises were reached.
