McKENZIE (January 13) — Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky for two men after they fled from authorities, exited the roadway and struck a tree. Both men had to be extricated from the pickup truck and the driver was airlifted to a medical facility. more

Growing up I heard a tale of two gun-toting outlaws from out west robbing the little bank on the square. Which in my mind gave way to the romanticized idea of a John Dillinger or Bonnie and Clyde sweeping into town with Tommy guns blazing followed by a high-speed chase; woe the imagination of a child. McKENZIE (January 3) — The process begins to interview and hire a new director of schools for the McKenzie Special School District. Lynn Watkins, 59, director of schools at McKenzie, is retiring June 30, 2022 after 14 years of service as director of schools. more
The Pro Football Hall of Fame revealed the modern-era finalists for the Class of 2023 on Wednesday, highlighted by three players who made the cut in their first year of eligibility: defensive end Dwight Freeney, cornerback Darrelle Revis and left tackle Joe Thomas. McKENZIE — Construction for a new multi-purpose sports and physical education facility began December 1 at McKenzie High School. Immediately as the MHS football team departed the school en route to Chattanooga for the championship game, earth-moving equipment excavated the football practice field and started construction of a new multi-purpose building. more
